Showing my age . . . .
An amazingly clear vid, from around the time it was a hit. And even after all these years, it still gives me goosebumps!
It has always been a favourite of mine, and when I met Chuan, I found out it was one of his, too. An, "Awwww..." moment, no? LOL

Pat, One of The Hollies greatest hit. Used to enjoy it being played at Mechinta Night Club Johor Baru in the early 70s. Those were the days. So nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to find a another fan of the songs from the sixties and seventies. Those were the days, indeed!!! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying your trip in nostalgia, Zawi!
Aunty Pat,
DeleteI can't find your usual comment white box. Blogger's been weird....again. Anyway...He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother is now Brad's anthem at home. Of course it's been renamed: He Ain't Pesky He's My Brofur.... har har har *evil laughs*
I don't know what's up either, my dear Ange :( I went to my settings and I didn't understand it as usual. Heeheehee.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see Brad enjoying his new anthem! Pesky is as Pesky does, I say!
Reply 2, to you Ange:
DeleteI signed out, and found myself via Google, and I see that Blogger seems to have added the 'reply' thingy, like they have on Facebook and Wordpress: where you can comment on someone else's specific comment. Plus there is the 'delete' option right-there-in-your-face that I didn't notice before.
I think that's what they've been fiddling with, cos lots of people say they've been locked out of their blogs, etc. As an anonymous visitor, I found the 'reply white-box' that you say was missing. So I hope others see it as well.
Ahh well, as long as I see YOU, and you see ME, we're all right, eh? :)
OOOOOOOO ...The HOLLIES ...AWWWWWWWW ! tq. (iwc)
DeleteDear iwc!
DeleteIt always makes my day to find a fellow-fan :)
Yes, it's an astoundingly well-preserved bit of footage. Never was a huge fan of The Hollies (was it them who also had hits titled 'On a Carousel' and 'No Milk Today'?) - but viewing this video after so many years leaves me with the impression that they were indeed a very tight band with an excellent grasp of what works on the radio.
ReplyDeleteThat is what made me post it: how clear the picture was, and how good they sounded.
Delete'On a carousel' is there's, too, but it's a bit whiny, and not one of my favourites. 'The air that I breathe'... now that is still my numero uno Hollies hit :)
And it's Herman's Hermits who sang 'No milk today' lah. Please don't get me started on sixties hits and trivia . . . .
"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" + "and when I met Chuan"
ReplyDelete= you were carrying him on first sight?!
OMG! ;P
Okay, there is a joke in there somewhere, right? I'm still in ponder-ponder-ponder mode....
DeleteChuan and I didn't do a love-at-first-sight thingy. We were good friends, and everyone else thought we were a couple long before we duhs went there.
I found out that this was a favourite when I was digging through his tapes (tapes!!! Hahahaha) and found it. Along with Paul McCartney and the Wings (someone knocking at your do-or, somebody ringing the bell..., and a couple of others that I now don't remember.
you and me both ma chere amie )
ReplyDeleteEnsuite, je suis en bonne compagnie :)
Deleteanother unforgetable hit is 'reflection of my life' ...AWWWWWWWWW ! (iwc)
DeleteOOOOOOOO...another one : 'the whiter shade of pale'...AWWWWWWWWWW ! (iwc)
DeleteSatu lagi : Sound of silence ...AWWWWWW! (iwc)
Deleteiwc: I know how old YOU are, for sure!!!
DeleteThe Marmalade, Procul Harum, Simon and Garfunkel - I love them all :)
How old are you !? "I really dun want to know": how many arms have held u ..how many lips have kissed you ...how many how many I wonder but I really dun want to know !! cheers. (iwc)
Deletebtw , my very 1st song : Fall in love with you by cliff richard,
then : Fraulein , Little Dutch Girl, Let it be me, Rhythm of the rain, My elusive dreams, I'll never find another you, In the morning, Love is blue, Massachusetts, Those were the days, Try a little kindness, Colours, Cottonfields, Green2 grass of home, For baby, El condor pasa ......&...... of course....... Devoted to you , AWWWWWWWWWW !!
btw2 : dun guess, I'm happy 66 and going to 67 in June ! TQ.
IWC!!! You deserve caps, now! :)
Delete'The little Dutch girl' was a song that my dad taught me to sing when I was about 3 or 4! I never thought I'd meet anyone else who'd even heard of the song!
I recognise, and know, every single song you name, and I think, I'd be able to sing them without the help of lyrics, practically word-perfect! I must have a special part of my brain-box reserved for song-lyrics!!!
'In the morning', by the Bee Gees, was the song my friend, Sukania Venugopal, and I sang when we entered Bakat TV way-back-when; we were known as the Kit Kats, and I still cringe at the name! Hahahaha!
I love Dan Fogelberg's version of 'Rhythm of the rain'; and the very first Cliff Richard song I learnt was 'Bachelor Boy', when I was a tiny tot!
I'm 56 this year. So glad to make your acquaintance :)
How could I NOT mention :
DeletePatches, Cold2 heart, Your cheating heart, Please help me I am falling, Send me the pillow, 1/2 as much, Jealous heart, Tennesee waltz, I need you, All for the love of a girl, The mansion you stole, Changing partners, Yesterday, Whispering Pine /Hope, N to Alaska, Corrina2, The voice of love, Under the boardwalk, Everybody go home, Release me, Am I dat easy to forget, AULD LANG SYNE, Red river valley, Blue berry hill, Blowing in the wind, On top of old smoky, So sad, Sealed with a kiss, Have I told you lately, Dun worry about me, Dreamy eyes, Pearly shells, # I CANT STOP LOVING YOU #! Cindy O Cindy, Master Jack, Pretty ribbons, San Francisco, The 12th of never, Traveling light, Dun let me cross over, True love, Silver threats & golden needles, Elbony eyes, All I have to do is dream, My mother's eyes, I'm still in love with you, We will make love, Born free, sweet rosie, Roses are red, My last date, love me tender,
He'll have to go, I won't forget you .......&...... Constantly. AWWWWWWW!
Your list made me laugh-out-loud!!! Lovely!!!
DeleteIs 'Master Jack' this one: It's a strange, strange world we live in, Master Jack. You taught me all I know and I'll never look back. It's a very strange world and I thank you, Master Jack. - by 4 Jacks and a Jill?
http://youtu.be/A0WvXpyufT8
I often find myself singing the first chorus. It is one of those melodies from the sixties that I love.
Thank you for taking me down this lovely path, IWC.
MORE : colours, last thing on my mind ( phil every ), The last farewell , she thinks I still care, amazing grace, Wat a fren we have in Jesus,.....!
DeleteAny idea ? where to get this : Till you're back in my arms ! ( none in youtube). CHEERS! (iwc)
DUN miss out :
DeleteA single Girl (sandy posey), catch the wind, beautiful brown eyes, bye2 love, crying in the chapel, ginny come lately, more than i can say, rainbow, limbo rock, love letters in the sand, silence is golden, stoney, how can i tell her, the young ones, summer holidays, poor boy, kokuipo, look 4 a star, ......ah......SILENT NIGHT, MY CHAINS ARE GONE, JOY TO THE WORLD, WHITE X'MAS, AS THE DEER, SO YOU WOULD COME .....& etc.
Mandarin songs : The moon represents my heart & tian mi2 (Teresa Teng).
CNY song : dong3ciang dong3ciang , dong3 ciangdong ciangdong ciang (X2)
gongxi ya gongxi , le ya le xiao yao .......(hahahaha)!
CHEERS.
I gooled & youtubed 4 KIT KATS but found nothing on 'bakat tv' !
DeleteIWC : You lose me with the Mandarin songs, I'm afraid :( But, Gong Xi Fa Cai to you!
DeleteAnon 9:16 am: I think we took part in Bakat tv in 1972. There are a couple of clips on You Tube from then, but I don't remember any of the singers. I was just 16 then, and my memory doesn't extend to the 'others' on the show ;) You know, I can't even remember who won that year :( It would be called 'Bintang RTM' the following year, and I don't remember how that evolved either.
Wonderful song and love The Hollies!
ReplyDeleteI forget that The Hollies were also big in States-side! And I believe Graham Nash would move there and have a brilliant career there. For me, he really was the voice of the band, and I would miss him after he left.
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the song :)
A very nostalgic video indeed. The hairdo, the bellbottom pants, the bare chest and the ambiance of the era gone but not forgotten. In fact, I would rate this to be a better version compared with the one recorded by The Osmonds.
ReplyDeleteI love The Osmonds, and I think they make wonderful music, but I agree: this is the better version!
DeleteI have a lovely dvd of The Osmonds, from now, and their harmony is still as tight and as brilliant as ever! They sing this one there as well. Lovely, handsome 'older' boys, and such a pleasure to listen to!
Thanks for dropping by :)
